Lucky 13 is in House

Wilde says she suspected her character might have a secret past, but she had to press Shore for details. Shore, a native of London, Ont., who created House and won the 2005 Emmy for best screenplay, was reluctant at first, but eventually told her -- on the condition that she not tell anyone else.

"I went to him and said, 'I know you guys keep everything secret. You're tight-lipped and I respect that. But I need to know, early on, what she's comfortable with and what strikes a chord with her.' He trusted me, and told me. And I didn't tell anyone, even though it was difficult. But it worked out for the best -- it got me in character.

"Once I knew, it really shaped her for me and gave me a lot of empathy and respect for her."

Only, don't expect any romantic tension between Thirteen and Dr. House -- for now.

"I've seen some reviews where people are sort of speculating that there's romantic tension there. I have never, ever picked up on that myself. I think they enjoy sparring with each other. They both have strong personalities. Of course, I know very little, because we find out things only a moment before the audience does. Anything's possible with her, because she's an unpredictable person."

They do things differently on House, Wilde admitted, with a laugh. She thought it only appropriate that House air its Christmas episode long after Christmas.

"I think the fact that the Christmas episode aired at the end of January is sort of odd and funny, in the vein of House humour. It's something that House would do, throw Christmas late."
